  • Neeraj’s throw of 87.58 meters made him win a gold medal. after 100 years this is the first time when India won a gold medal in Olympics. Antwerp Olympics in 1920 was the first time when India participated in Olympics, and till Rio 2016 which was the last Olympics India hasn’t won any gold in Olympics, none of India’s athletes had won any medal.   
  • The stalwarts Milkha Singh and PT Usha missed out by a narrow margin in 1960 and 1984 respectively. (Neeraj Chopra) Talking about Neeraj, he was not satisfied even after throwing 87.58 meters. He was trying for an Olympic record.   
  • Let us tell you that the record for throwing the farthest javelin in the Olympics is 90.57 meters. Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen achieved this feat at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Neeraj Chopra said that after throwing good first two throws, he was trying for an Olympic record.    Neeraj Chopra also said that before his final throw he was not thinking about anything and then he realized that he had achieved the top position in the competition. Came last to throw in the next three attempts.   
  • As soon as the silver medalist Jakub Wadlech of the Czech Republic completed his final throw, Chopra knew he had won the gold. In the virtual press conference, he said, ‘since everyone had thrown I was the last player to throw, and that made me realize that I had already won gold, and something inexpressible changed in my mind.    
  • Chopra said, ‘while I was on the run-up, I could not think of anything and was just focusing on the throw, for this was not an amazing throw but still I got it.    At the same time, Neeraj Chopra said in an exclusive conversation with Aaj Tak that I think my sporting life is the biggest day of Winning a gold medal in athletics for myself and my country is a big deal for me.     
  • After taking 87.58m in my second attempt, what were you thinking about whether the gold was confirmed or something else was going on?  To this Neeraj Chopra said, ‘No, it is not like that. The rest of the throwers were also doing very well. The throwers who have been at number two and third have also thrown up to 88-89 meters.
