NIPAH VIRUS: Death, Symptoms, Prevention, and History
A 12-year-old child has died due to infection with the Nipah virus in Kozhikode, Kerala. The child, admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, had symptoms of Nipah virus infection. He died today (Sunday) morning.
NIV Pune has confirmed that the sample taken from Kerala has resulted in Nipah positive. The child died this morning, his condition was already serious. Yesterday there was a meeting of the ministers and the concerned officials on Nipah virus infection.
After which it has been decided to form a team and get control of the situation. Contact tracing and other procedures have already been started. Special officers have been deployed.
The child who died was first admitted to a private hospital, after that he was brought to a medical college from where he was admitted to a private hospital. It has been said by the officials that there is no need to panic but it is necessary to take precautions.
At present, none of the child’s family and other relatives have any symptoms. The Central Government has sent a team of National Center for Disease Control to the state, which will reach Kerala today. Technical assistance will be provided by the team “The ministry said” to the state.
After this matter came to light, the search for active cases in the family or in the village, areas has been started. People who came in contact in the last 12 days are also being traced. Strict quarantine has been instructed. Apart from this, sample collection and lab testing are also going on.
Let us inform you that in the year 2018 also, Nipah cases were seen in Kozhikode and Malappuram in Kerala. Nipah virus spreads through the saliva of fruit bats.
